Sergeant George “Andy” Anderson A Life of Service and Sacrifice

When George “Andy” Anderson graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the Class of 1965, many of his classmates believed his future would lead him into the business world. Like many young men his age, he had dreams and opportunities ahead of him. But instead of following the expected path, Anderson made a decision that would forever define his legacy—he answered his nation’s call to service and joined the United States Army.

Assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Anderson served in Vietnam as a sergeant. His duties placed him in positions of great responsibility, working as both a supply clerk and a gunner. Like countless soldiers of the 4th Infantry Division, he served in the challenging and dangerous environment of Vietnam’s Central Highlands, where American troops faced difficult terrain, harsh conditions, and the constant threat of combat.

Far from the life his classmates once imagined for him, Anderson stood alongside his fellow soldiers, providing the support and strength needed during wartime. His service reflected the commitment of an entire generation of young Americans who left behind families, friends, and futures to serve their country.

On July 2, 1968, Sergeant George “Andy” Anderson was killed in Vietnam. He was only 20 years old.
