Specialist Four Billy Monroe Green was born on April 1, 1944, in Los Angeles, California. In Vietnam, he served with Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, as an Infantry Operations and Intelligence Specialist.
His role placed him close to the planning and information that guided combat operations. It required attention, judgment, and an understanding of the dangers faced by the soldiers around him. Yet in Vietnam, titles and assignments offered little separation from the war itself. In Hậu Nghĩa Province, danger could arrive suddenly and without warning.
On June 24, 1966, during hostile action, Specialist Green was killed by small-arms fire. He was only 22 years old.
